Birdcage Pavillion, Tabcorp Melbourne
Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival adds more colour
Every year huge crowds of punters and revellers descend upon
Flemington Racecourse for the Spring Racing Carnival and its feature
race, The Melbourne Cup. The Melbourne Cup is the world's richest
race over 3,200m (two miles) with $5.5 million in prize money.
Racegoers stake their places trackside, laying down blankets and
folding out chairs, while others find coveted seats in the stand. In
between races the spotlight moves to fashion with the Myer Fashions
on the Field event, and the well-heeled celebrities flitting about
the Birdcage enclosure.
The Flemington Birdcage is the temporary home of the corporates.
An opportunity for them to extend some hospitality as a show of
appreciation to clients and staff. A prime example is the Tabcorp
marquee designed by Diadem, a leading Australian design firm focusing on corporate image and event branding. The marquee provided a base for many corporate guests over the
carnival as well as TAB betting facilities. It's aim was to provide
a colourful engaging environment for clients and guests to relax and
enjoy the races during the day and to go nightclubbing in the
evenings.
Feature Lighting
The main focal point of the marquee was the 7m x 2.5m LED wall.
Designed to fill the marquee with colour the wall consisted of 5
Plasma TVs and 28 individually controlled rectangular sections
measuring 900mm x 400mm x 400mm and constructed from 2.5mm opal acrylic.
Providing the vivid colours in each section is a single
TridonicAtco LED RGB Chain driven via a DALI LED RGB Driver. Colour
changing sequences and special effects are run by a BM2600-DALI
Controller from DALI Control. Different sequences are stored in the
controller’s flash memory for race time, in-between races and
nightclubbing.
Colour Sequences
The RGB colour changing sequences include a moving arrow head, a
four row colour race from left to right and random colour changes in
the boxes to provide a continually changing display. The sequences
are started from buttons on a wall plate connected to the controller
or from a remote control unit from anywhere in the marquee.
Conclusion
The Tabcorp marquee was a popular success with the DALI Control
BM2600-DALI Controller providing all the colour changing functions
to suit the mood of the event. The controller provided easy installation, powerful and flexible control
sequences and simple operation.
