The Sky Factory Creates a Dramatic SkyCeiling™ for Gensler

This is not a skylight but an magical illusion that changes before your eyes.

The Sky Factory participated with the world-renowned design firm Gensler in their hospitality-themed ‘concept room’ during NeoCon West, the cutting edge interior design exposition that took place during L.A. Design Week at the end of March 2006.

Working with Gensler’s design team, The Sky Factory created a unique 18’x6’ Programmable Luminous SkyCeiling™. Photographic images of a cloud-filled sky hovered over the glamorous lounge space, changing end-to-end from tawny orange to shades of deep blue over a slow, 4-minute cycle.

The color change was accomplished with a bi-color array of T5 fluorescent lighting spread across 2 Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) networks controlled by a DALI Control BM2500-DALI controller. The system was configured by Specialized Lighting Solutions to provide a series of dramatic sequences. This package, available as a custom feature for all fluorescent-based Luminous SkyCeilings, allows a huge variety of lighting effects to be programmed into the ceiling.

The Sky Factory designs and manufactures Luminous SkyCeilings™ and Luminous Virtual Windows™, both of which provide valuable daylight-balanced light and compellingly realistic views of nature. SkyCeilings are modular and come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and can be configured with various lighting options. These products dramatically transform closed interior spaces, and the illusions created are so authentic that they trigger genuine psycho-physiological responses of relaxation, vitality, and well-being. Since its founding in 2002, The Sky Factory has created custom products for a wide range of environments: healthcare, commercial, and residential.
